Nice, Dinner & a Free Night

After two  jam-packed days in Paris...
we wake up ready to travel south. As much I loved exploring the last two cities, I am so excited to see the beach and relax a little bit. First things first is packing up – I always do this before going to bed and it’s a lifesaver the next morning. We load onto a coach bus and make the short drive to the Paris train station. We have time to grab snacks, coffees, more macarons and then we board our train to Nice which is about a six hour journey – I used the time to finally catch up my journal, I think without it I’d forget half the things I did! The train ride through the French countryside, then along the mediterranean coast was absolutely stunning! Our hotel was a short walk from the train station and we had some free time to explore the area and get ready for dinner. Our hotel actually had a roof bar – so my friends and I had cocktails overlooking the city & the coast.
Dinner was at a cute spot really close to the water...
our tour director walked us through the main areas of Nice – Place Massena, Promenade d’Anglais before we went to the restaurant. The restaurant was nice, white tablecloths and we were served a three-course meal. We even got to try frog legs! My table decided to share a bottle of Provence rose wine and we loved it. After dessert, the group was all free to go. It was a relief to be in a smaller city I wasn’t so overwhelmed with getting lost or how to metro back to the hotel since it was just a simple walk back. Most of the group gathered on the rocky beach to watch sunset and it was fun to go to the bars together.

An optional excursion I'm glad I took
Cannes/Monaco
airplane airport

The next morning could have been a totally free day in Nice but I opted to participate in the Cannes/Monaco Option. Our tour director had us confirm our decision a few days prior so they could make all the arrangements – thinking back I can’t imagine missing out on seeing these other places while in the South of France. We had a private motor coach for the entire day – late morning we drove to Cannes, had a nice picnic on the sandy beaches and got to see the red carpet set up for the Cannes film festival – so cool! Then we drove to Monaco and our tour director took us to the Casino which was on one side of the bay and also to the old town where the Prince’s Palace and the cathedral where Grace Kelly is buried. The view in Monaco were truly insane, you can’t miss it! By dinner time the group arrived back to Nice and dinner was on our own. I packed up before heading to bed and dreamt going Italy tomorrow !!
