— let me just say! I promise you will regret it if you don’t book it. I had the time of my life in Poros and I am already planning my way back there. Just the fact that we had 3 nights there felt like we’d already moved in. The island is small and easy to get around and so picturesque that it was easy to feel at home there.

We arrived late afternoon for check-in at our Poros hotel, which was beach-front and had amazing views. I decided to go for a swim before our Greece orientation meeting and dinner at night. At the orientation we got all the information about the hotel amenities like the pool, the beach chairs, breakfast, etc., and we also met the watersports owner who made us really excited for parasailing and tubing.

Dinner our first night was just a short walk from the hotel – we sat by the water eating a classic Greek lasagna type dish called Pastitsio and I had the best Greek salad of my whole life. After dinner the group walked into town to explore the shops and later the nightlife in Poros.

We decided to go for the watersports the following afternoon, so I took my time getting up and having breakfast this day. Watersports were so fun: we explored a different beach and set up on the lounge chairs laid out for us. Participating in watersports was very casual, you just decided, on the spot, what you wanted to do and paid there. I ended up going parasailing, tubing and did the crazy couch which was my favorite so you could say I really loved watersports day. After watersports everyone was free for dinner, and I decided I wanted to try some local octopus and set out to choose some seafood dishes this night. Everyone ended up meeting up in town later and we visited the same bars as the night before and started to feel like we were locals.

On our third day in Poros everyone was looking forward to a totally free day and lounging on the beach. We also had bicycles to use for the day to explore the island and make the short trip into town a little quicker. For dinner this evening we ate at a steakhouse on the top of the hill in Poros; the food was so good! After, we walked to Poros’s clock tower lookout and took in the view of the sea. It was beautiful.

Our final stop in...
Athens
airplane airport

The next morning, we said our goodbyes to Poros and hopped on a speed boat to Athens. The ride took about 1.5 hours to reach the port of Athens where we met a bus that took us straight to the Acropolis. Our Athens guide was waiting for us, and we got our “whisper guide” headsets and our tickets. I was so excited - seeing the Acropolis had been on my bucket list forever. The tour was amazing, and we even got to drive around Athens with stops at the First Olympic Stadium and the Temple of Zeus. We dropped off our luggage at the hotel around 1 pm, and everyone set out to get some lunch during our last bit of free time.

Our hotel was super close to the center of Athens in Monastiraki Square, so I also did some final souvenir shopping at the markets. I decided to spend a little bit of time packing up my suitcase for the journey home the next day, before meeting the group in the hotel lobby for our final evening program. We had dinner at a taverna in the Plaka district with live music and traditional Greek dancers – some of us even participated. It was such a good time, and we definitely got a lot of laughs out of it. After dinner the group all met on the rooftop of our hotel which had an amazing view of the Acropolis lit up. At the end of the trip, we gave our tour director a thank-you card and pooled our tips to show appreciation for all the staff’s hard work. This turned into a moment full of hugs, happy tears, and emotional goodbyes. After 17 days and over 3,000 miles across Europe, it was wild to realize the trip was actually over. It was honestly the best time of my life. I came home with hundreds of photos, a million unforgettable memories, and 30+ new best friends. If I could do it every summer, I totally would!
